Menopause is a natural life stage, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy to navigate.
Officially, menopause is confirmed when you haven’t had a period for 12 months. This usually happens around age 51, but it can occur earlier due to surgery, medical treatment, or premature ovarian insufficiency.
The years leading up to menopause – known as perimenopause– can start as early as your late 30s or early 40s. This is when hormone levels begin to fluctuate, and it's often when the most noticeable symptoms begin.
Many women experience changes they don’t initially connect to menopause. You might feel “off,” more anxious, tired, or forgetful, without realising it’s hormonal. Some women breeze through with minimal symptoms – others experience several at once.
There are many symptoms of menopause and many are worse during the perimenopausal years often due to hormone imbalances (some may settle post menopause):
Irregular periods

Hot flushes/Night sweats
