Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in a Women's Health Physiotherapy appointment?

You will be asked lots of questions about your symptoms and medical history. You may then be asked to undress slightly to assess your posture, back, hips, stomach and any other relevant areas. If appropriate you may then be asked to have an internal vaginal or rectal examination.Once a diagnosis has been made you may be offered hands on treatment and/or a home exercise program. You will also be given lots of advice to improve your symptoms.

Do I have to have an internal examination?

If you are attending for a pelvic floor issue, post op or postnatal it is very useful to have an internal vaginal examination. This enables assessment of technique, strength, endurance, scar tissue, function and overactivity of the pelvic floor. If you prefer not to have this or your appointment is online then it is still possible to recieve advice/treatment but it may not be as accurate.

What should I wear for an appointment?

Wear something you are comfortable to move in and is easy to take off if required.
